FAQ - Youth Hostels

I will be traveling to Germany this summer and am looking for information on inexpensive places for a student to stay.

Germany has an excellent system of youth hostels (Jugendherberge) that offer all types of reasonably priced accommodations, most often including a good breakfast. They are almost without exception very clean, safe, friendly and a great place to meet all types of people.

Some are in fascinating places like old renovated castles. Others offer a stay with a theme - culture, sports, the environment.
