Montmartre am Main
For all its importance on the art scene, Germany has, until now, lacked a "Montmartre" or a "Hyde Park". It has had no place where artists and artists-to-be could gather outdoors, with their easels, paint and umbrellas, to exhibit and hopefully sell their masterpieces, let you watch their works come into being, or even do your portrait for a fee.
An attempt is being made in the Frankfurt suburb of Höchst to fill this gap. "Montmartre am Main" takes place on selected spring and summer Sundays on the attractive Main River promenade below the romantic Höchst Castle. For the public it can be an interesting part of a Sunday stroll.
Artists, amateur or professional, are invited to display their works, meet their fellow artists and show the general public what they have to offer. They only need to come. There is no complicated and time-consuming planning of a show, no expensive mailed announcements, and above all no fees or restrictions of any kind.
Tentative dates for 2009 are April 5 and 19, May 3 and 17, June 7 and 21, July 5 and 19, August 2, 16 and 30, September 13 and 27. October 11 and 25, each time from 2 to 5 p.m. However, organizer Kathleen Schaefer warns that you "should double-check the website (www.montmartre-am-main.net) because of possible date changes due to unforeseen circumstances."
