Frankfurt International School
Founded in 1961, Frankfurt International School (FIS) is the second oldest largest international school in Germany. It provides a world-class international education to nearly 1800 students from over 50 countries.
CAMPUSES IN OBERURSEL AND WIESBADEN
Nestled at the foot of the Taunus Hills in Oberursel, the FIS main campus with its extensive facilities and grounds caters to children from age 3 to Grade 12. The beautiful FIS Wiesbaden Campus offers the same top-quality education to students from age 3 up to Grade 8, but its smaller size gives it a special character. All students graduating from Wiesbaden can then continue their education at the FIS campus in Oberursel afterwards.
A MISSION THAT INSPIRES STUDENTS
Our mission is to be the leading, culturally diverse and family-oriented international school with English as the principal language of instruction.
We inspire individuals to develop their intellect, creativity and character to become independent, adaptable, socially responsible and internationally minded citizens, by ensuring a dynamic, inquiry-driven education of the highest standard.
THE INQUIRY-BASED APPROACH OF THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
Education is an ongoing process of inquiry and discovery. FIS was the first, and for a long time, the only school in the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main area authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme. We lay a foundation in the Primary and Elementary Schools with the inquiry-based approach to learning of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), while the IB Diploma also allows students to graduate with a degree that is recognized worldwide. Currently, around 80% of our students graduate with this distinction while others can choose the highly-esteemed FIS High School Diploma.
AN EDUCATION OF THE HIGHEST STANDARD
FIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It selectively recruits only the best faculty from around the world. They utilize the most current teaching practices and 21st-century learning tools. The students have access to advanced ICT equipment including CAD/CAM software, robotics labs, 3D printing and interactive white boards in all classrooms. The school supports a dynamic 1-1 laptop learning program in the high school and carries an large inventory of electronic devices for elementary and primary school student access as well. FIS student performance results, which are constantly measured against other international schools, have consistently been above the worldwide average for many years now.
ENGLISH AND LANGUAGES
English is the principal language of instruction at FIS. Our ESL (English as a Second Language) program ensures that students quickly reach a proficiency level that allows them to participate in all subjects. All students are taught German as a foreign language with Spanish and French as options after Grade 6. In addition, we offer first-language instruction in Dutch, Swedish, Japanese and Korean.
FIS earned its excellent reputation not only from nurturing students' intellectual abilities, but also by fostering their creative and athletic potential. From the early grades through Upper School, a student's education is enriched with art, music, drama and a variety of other creative mediums. Through the school's curricular and interscholastic athletic programs students develop strong bodies, but also hone the skills of teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-discipline. These programs are supplemented with a variety of extra-curricular activities, organized clubs, and service projects.
WHERE FAMILIES FIND A HOME
When a student is accepted into the FIS community, the school makes a commitment to the entire family as well. We are a family-oriented school, a place where a meaningful partnership of mutual support is created between home and school in order to provide students with the best possible learning experience.
