International School Hannover Region
The International School Hannover Region was founded in 1996 to serve the needs of a growing international community in Hanover and its surrounding region. Since then we have grown from 72 students to over 560, with more than 50 different nationalities, taught by a highly qualified and dedicated international faculty.
Rigorous academic curricula, based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes not only prepare our students for success at universities worldwide, but also promote enquiry based learning, critical thinking and international respect and understanding within a caring, nurturing and safe environment. We value the student as an individual and are committed to preparing young people for a life as responsible citizens and life-long learners. We sincerely believe that learning within a culturally and linguistically rich environment, which promotes empathy, open mindedness and respect for others will enable our students to "make a difference" and create a better, more sustainable future.
Class enrolment rarely exceeds 20 students. Students who are not fluent in English are provided with special ESL (English as a Second Language) classes until they are comfortable in reading and writing the language. The school also employs trained special education Learning Support teachers to care for the special needs some students may have, as well as two full time School Counsellors.
Located near the centre of Hanover, the school occupies purpose-built quarters on a spacious, green campus which includes the main school administration building, five wings of classrooms, a well stocked library, sports facilities, music and drama rooms and an auditorium, a playing field, science laboratories, an excellent ICT infrastructure, Kindergarten facilities, as well as a large, attractive dining room equipped with a professional kitchen.
The school is easy to reach both by public transport and by car. The tram stops are only a short distance away, with trams and buses running at regular intervals.
The International School Hannover Region is a co-educational day school enrolling students from Kindergarten (age 3) to grade 12.
The school employs approximately 85 teachers with a variety of national backgrounds, most of whom are full-time. The majority of faculty are native English speakers with previous experience in national and/or international schools.
In the belief that the quality of the school is directly related to the quality of the faculty, ISHR strives to engage and nurture energetic, talented, and empathetic teachers whose primary aim is the success of the youngsters in their charge.
The Status of the School
The International School Hannover Region is organized in the form of a non-profit private limited company and therefore the management can concentrate on creating the best possible learning and teaching environment without the pressures of any shareholders’ interests.
ISHR is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and belongs to the Association of German International Schools (AGIS). It is the only International School in Lower Saxony authorised to teach all three IB (International Baccalaureate) programmes, The PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma.
The school receives financial assistance from the Land of Lower Saxony and from the City of Hanover. School fees are charged but, on account of the financial help mentioned above, the fees are low in comparison with many other international schools
The school has the status of a recognised "Ergänzungsschule".
