Taunus International Montessori School
The Taunus International Montessori School e.V. was established in 1973 in Oberursel to serve the needs of the international community in the Frankfurt area. TIMS is an English language school with over 37 years of experience in education and caring for children from 18 months (toddlers) to 6 years of age.
TIMS has one toddler group and three classrooms of 3 to 6 year old children, who are taught in mixed age groups. This wonderful Montessori Method of mixing the age groups encourages the young to emulate their older peers, while the older children learn to be patient and caring for the younger ones. We see daily that the younger children want to do much of what the older children do: for example, reading, writing, learning about mathematics and geography. In this manner, all the children progress rapidly and successfully enjoying academic work as well as practical life exercises, sensorial exercises and other classroom activities, such as art and project work. During the day the children also enjoy German lessons, music lessons, gym lessons, yoga lessons and cooking lessons. The children happily participate in a weekly all-school assembly, during which each class performs a song, dance or poem for all the other children. The entire school sings together and celebrates birthdays as well. This ritual builds self-confidence starting at a very early age. Our children give concerts or performances for their parents twice a year, building and encouraging their abilities to speak and act in public, which is such an important skill to learn and to have in today’s society.
The lead teachers of each class are Montessori certified and trained. Leading staff members have been at TIMS between 13 and 25 years, which is indeed unusual for international schools in these fast-changing times. TIMS thereby truly offers stability and continuity to the parents and children who join our association and visit our school.
TIMS offers all its children a warm, friendly, bright and cheerful atmosphere in which to learn and grow. Spacious and bright classrooms, a large gym/multi-purpose hall, the children’s kitchen and our playground all contribute to the feeling of well-being and happiness evident at TIMS. Our building is located in Oberursel just a short driving distance from Frankfurt, one of Europe’s banking capitals.
TIMS is a culturally versatile school, some years having up to 20 different nations represented between its students and staff. Our parents are included in most aspects of daily school life if they so choose. Our volunteers take care of our lovely and inviting library, keeping it in order and decorating it according to seasons or special international holidays, which we so gladly celebrate. It is easy and enjoyable for our international and German families to get together and meet one another. Many life-long friendships, both local and around the world have been established at TIMS.
Our school board is made up partially of parents, staff members and outside advisors in order to keep a well-rounded balance of interests and good open communication at all times.
As of January 2011 TIMS will be open from 8 to 4 p.m. After school activities from 3 to 4 or longer guarantee your child an instructive and fun-filled afternoon. Classes offered so far are art, gymnastics, cooking and scientific experiments. More to come! The school calendar will be modified as of summer 2011 to have partial vacation coverage for working parents. In this way TIMS is determined to grow and change to meet the needs and challenges of both international and local parents, while still maintaining its educational excellence and--as important--its loving care of your children.
