Scouting is alive and well in Germany!
BSWE offer Scouting to all ages from 6 to 60 (or longer) to those based in Europe. Families of soldiers, members of the military community or veterans staying locally are always welcome to join the Scout Groups which are part of BSWE. These groups are located where there are large British communities in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Italy and, of course, Germany.
All sections work to a balanced program that allows young people to realise their full potential and gain Activity Awards or the Chief Scouts Award through Challenges.
Scouting is a worldwide, values based, educational movement. The World Scout Movement began in the United Kingdom in 1907 with an experimental camp on Brownsea Island, Dorset. During the week-long camp, Robert Baden-Powell and a small party of boys put into practice his ideas for training young people in responsible citizenship. In August the following year, the first official Scout Camp was held at Humshaugh, near Hexham , Northumberland.
Scouting is very much alive and kicking in British Forces Germany. Scout Groups are in most major garrisons from Fallingbostel to Elmpt and beyond. There are many more youngsters on waiting lists who would also like to join if only we had the leaders. Nonetheless, we always welcome new members.
Scouting is provided within 5 distinct sections Beavers (6 - 8), Cubs (8 - 10), Scouts (10 -14), Explorer (14 - 18) and Network (18 -25). The older age groups can also work on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
We are always on the lookout for leaders who have been posted overseas and would like to continue in the movement, but would equally be delighted to welcome new members to the Association whether a young person or an adult.
Could you be a leader or do you have a skill to offer young people? Training is available; all it needs is some of your spare time. The rewards are a deep sense of satisfaction that you have helped and influenced the future of some youngsters who quite possible would never ever be given such a start in life.
For those with less time to give there are many other opportunities for you to help our young people. Either in the adult supporter role or as part of a Scout Fellowship. Please get in touch.
