International School Hannover Region
Educating World Citizens
ISHR's mission is to deliver “an international education within a creative and caring environment to enable students to become life-long learners and open-minded, compassionate citizens.” What does an international education mean at ISHR? Firstly, we are one of a small number of international schools in Germany to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) to all students, from our three-year-old program through grade 12. Our curricular and co-curricular programs develop students who will build a better world through a deep understanding of the interaction of the academic disciplines, and how that knowledge and understanding can be applied to solve complex problems. Students at ISHR understand that to improve their success rate, they must take risks and prototype their ideas to fail forward.
Our young people are developing skills that lead to the design of innovative solutions not only because they will have better college outcomes and employability in the future, but because of the very real need for humans to develop ways to solve environmental and societal problems that make the world a better place. Our humanities contextualize those problems. The arts subjects nurture the creativity, risk-taking, confidence and collaboration skills to capitalize on teamwork in solving them, and our Science, Design, Technology and Math programs allow for the development of those solutions into real world change. Learners at ISHR do all of this while attaining their highest personal level of second language acquisition, or native language, at whatever level of language they join us with.
We have over 600 students representing over 60 nationalities, with our students predominantly coming from the Netherlands, the USA, France, the UK, Japan, and our host country Germany. We are regularly audited and accredited by the European Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) to ensure quality and high standards.
Our City Campus
Our large, green campus is located in a quiet, but central area of Hannover. The city centre is a mere 500 meters away and our students can conveniently reach ISHR via tram or bus. For parents who drop off and pick up their children by car, there are ample parking opportunities just across from the campus.
Our spacious buildings are fitted with modern appliances; all classrooms are equipped with either smart boards or projector/white board combinations. Our new maker space encourages students to learn coding, carpentry, and robotics in an engaging way that connects to our curriculum, and in our secondary school every student brings her/his own MacBook.
Two full-size sports halls and extensive outdoor learning areas enable us to offer a comprehensive extra-curricular programme, which many of our students enthusiastically take part in.
Right from its start back in 1996 to the present day, ISHR has benefitted from the support of many different branches of industry and associations in the Hannover Region. ISHR is seen as an important factor for the economic and social development of the area. Frequently companies show their appreciation by sponsoring classroom installations and equipment.
