The International School Westpfalz (ISW) is a coeducational, full-day international school for children aged 4-18 years. ISW was founded in 2017 by the “SBW Haus des Lernens” organisation (Switzerland). With around 200 students from over 20 nations, ISW offers a caring family atmosphere both for expatriates and local families. Expatriate families enjoy the social network at ISW which eases integration into their new location, while local German parents benefit from the innovative educational program and English language instruction.
ISW is based in a beautiful former monastery in Landstuhl with the school offering a full day program from 8am until 5pm. While the main language of instruction is English, German classes are also taught daily to all students. Before- and after-school adult supervision is available each day to students from kindergarten up to grade 6. ISW also provides a wide range of after-school activities including music, drama, art and sports.
The International School Westpfalz is located in the West Palatine region of Germany. More than 500,000 people live in this area. Vast forests, rolling hills and red cliffs shape the image of the region.
The West Palatinate comprises the three independent cities of Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken as well as the four districts Kusel, Donnersbergkreis, Kaiserslautern and Südwestpfalz.
People from across the globe come to the Westpfalz region. 140 different nationalities live in the area and it has the largest English-speaking community in Germany. 50,000 Americans live in and around Kaiserslautern, the largest US military base outside of the USA.
Everyone is familiar with the Palatinate Forest, the largest continuous forest area in Germany, a one-of-a-kind piece of nature and touristic highlight in the region. But the West Palatinate offers much more than beautiful landscapes. Cosmopolitan and friendly people, attractive employers and an environment with an innovative spirit invite you to lay your roots in the West Palatinate.
Our school is a Cambridge International School, registered to offer education programmes from Cambridge Assessment International Education, part of the University of Cambridge. We are proud to be part of the world’s largest international community of schools, preparing students for life with Cambridge qualifications that are valued by universities and employers around the world.
The Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success. We shape its curriculum around how our students learn – with a wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer them. Our programmes inspire students [or your child] to love learning, helping them discover new abilities and a wider world.
ISW offers the Cambridge Primary, IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and A-level programs, and is an accredited examination center for Cambridge International Examinations, offering the full range of English examinations.
ISW is recognized by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as an accredited supplementary school (‘anerkannte Ergaenzungsschule’).
The school is owned and managed by the famous Swiss education provider, SBW Haus des Lernens, which has over 40 years of experience in the field of private education, currently managing more than 10 schools throughout Switzerland and Germany. Some of the innovative approaches developed by SBW and implemented at ISW include personalized student coaching, autonomous learning and the development of learning skills.
